We are very proud to host this screening to support and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Down’s Syndrome Association.
Zack Gottsagen, a young man with Down’s syndrome leads this wonderfully stunning, Mark Twain-esque adventure.
From the confines of his residential care home, Zak (Gottsagen) dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. With a passion for adventure, he makes his escape and sets sail to meet his idol - The Saltwater Redneck (Thomas Haden Church), and the wrestling school where he started out.
Along the way, he crosses paths with Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), a fugitive outlaw who befriends and mentors him on his long and arduous journey.
The unlikely duo cruise along the banks of North Carolina, convincing Zak’s nurse Eleanor (Dakota Johnson) to join in the trail. With an effortlessly human touch, the film explores the back-story of all three characters with insight and compassion whilst maintaining a light-hearted simplicity.
But it’s the stellar performance from newcomer Zack Gottsagen who absolutely steals the show.
Following on from our screenings of My Feral Heart and Sanctuary, this screening celebrates a very special year for the DSA with profits from our ticket sales going to the charity.
