Described as one of the biggest (and politest) film events of 2019, the immensely popular period drama Downton Abbey has one last outing at The Odyssey.
On our screens between 2010 and 2015, ITV’s Downton Abbey follows the fictional aristocratic family, the Crawley’s, and their many servants, as they lived through events such as the sinking of the Titanic, the First World War, and the Irish War of Independence.
The film is written by Julian Fellowes (full title: Julian Alexander Kitchener-Fellowes, Baron Fellowes of West Stafford), the creator of Downton Abbey, and the writer of Gosford Park. There’s plenty of recurring faces, including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael and Jim Carter.
Andrew Parker exclaims “blimey!” as he receives a note containing the news that the King and Queen intend on visiting Downton Abbey. This causes a big stir among the Crawley’s and their servants. And when the Royals bring their own host of waiting staff, much drama ensues.
Downton Abbey distils many of the ingredients that made the show an enduring favourite, welcoming fans back for a fittingly resplendent homecoming.
