Shooting pure energy from her fists, possessing superhuman strength and able to travel at the speed of light, Captain Marvel is the first female superhero to front a Marvel film – which was released worldwide on International Women’s Day.
Vers - an elite member of the Kree race’s Starforce - experiences visions that come to her like memories, in which she is growing up on Earth. As she and Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) undertake a Starforce mission against the shapeshifting Skrull (their leader portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn), things go awry and Vers escapes to Earth. Her crash landing attracts the attention of a younger Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
As Vers pieces together her identity, she discovers the full extent of her powers and transforms into the mighty Captain Marvel.
Talks for a female-led film have been at Marvel Studios since 2013, with Black Widow and Peggy Carter among those under consideration. They went for a new character – the most powerful hero the MCU has ever seen. The Oscar-winning Brie Larson meets this challenge head on.
Accompanied by a glorious 90s soundtrack from No Doubt, Nirvana, Garbage, R.E.M. and more, this explosive flick heralds the approaching final chapter - Avengers: Endgame.
