Director Dean DeBlois’s decade-spanning saga soars to an explosive finale in this animated tale of courage and companionship.

Having succeeded his father as chief Viking, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless, his fire-breathing companion, oversee the construction of a bustling utopia where dragons and humans live in harmony.

After years of adventure, the pair enjoy some hard-earned peace. But when Toothless - once thought to be the last of his breed - stumbles across a mate, the seemingly chance encounter unravels into a malicious plot hatched by dragon hunter Grimmel the Grisly (F. Murray Abraham).

With his chiefdom in disarray and his scaly friends in danger, Hiccup teams up with fellow Viking Astrid (America Ferrera) to seek out the Hidden World, a mythical land where dragons are said to enjoy total freedom.

This trilogy has gone from strength to strength, with its final part boasting spectacular, almost photorealistic effects and breath-taking aerial sequences. Abraham also makes for a delightfully despicable villain, while the jokes will land with children and parents alike.

After charming a generation, this is a poignant farewell to one of cinema’s greatest friendships.
