Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly encompass comedy greats Stanley ‘Stan’ Laurel and Oliver ‘Ollie’ Hardy beautifully, giving their all from the first frame to the last.

Set in the early 1950s, the glitzy Hollywood era is far behind them, and Laurel and Hardy struggle to keep an audience. They set off on a tour of Britain, performing ‘a greatest hits’ show, however, buried ghosts start to reappear and the future begins to look uncertain.

Director Jon S. Baird (Filth) and writer Jeff Pope (Philomena, Little Boy Blue) fully immerse us in the world on the comedy kings, creating a film that is endearingly modest and gentle, that also delves deep into the strange world of being funny, and the burden of aging in showbiz.

It is incredible how much they look like the real deal, with Reilly spending 4 hours in the makeup chair each day being placed into his prosthetics designed by two time Oscar winner, and St Albans local, Mark Coulier, who is best known for his work on the Harry Potter series, aging Tilda Swinton in The Grand Budapest Hotel and transforming Meryl Streep into The Iron Lady.
