The 3,000 foot vertical granite rock face of El Capitan is commonly regarded as one of the most visually stunning natural cliff faces in the world.
Free Solo follows the story of Alex Honnold, a renowned yet somewhat controversial rock climber, as he attempts to climb El Capitan...without any ropes.
Honnold will rely on his years of climbing experience, physical strength and unprecedented mental endurance to help him pull off one of the most audacious ascents in climbing history.
Directed by Jimmy Chin and his wife Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, both distinguished mountaineers and filmmakers, allows the grandeur and scale of Honnold’s achievements to be gloriously captured for cinematic release.
The challenges facing Honnold seem equalled by the production team and their efforts to capture the ascent whilst relentlessly questioning their own morals on filming such an event.
Expect nail-biting visuals combined with an incredible story of human might and endurance, all wrapped up in a complex web of morality to make for a truly ground-breaking documentary.
With such a limited theatrical release, this is certainly not one to be missed on the big screen!
