Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, creators of 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, bring together both sides of their unique filmography to open up the Spider-Verse, a world where more than one can wear the mask.
When Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales is bitten by a radioactive spider on the subway, he suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents, including the free-spirited Spider-Woman, the 1930’s Spider-Noir, and the talking pig Spider-Ham.
The animation style of the film is unlike anything seen on this scale before. Much like they wanted The Lego Movie to feel like you could build all the blocks, Lord and Miller wanted this to feel like you walked inside a comic book, combining CGI animation with line work, painting, dots and all sorts of comic book techniques to make it look like it was created by hand.
The film is an exciting, wild adventure, filled with heart, humour, and plenty of superhero action, some early reviews are even calling it the best Spider-Man movie ever made.
The screening on Friday 25th at 9pm will be introduced by James Nichols, Lecturer in New Media Publishing at University of Hertfordshire's School of Humanities.
