This latest Marvel caper is one of Tom Hardy’s most clearly-spoken parts for some time, which is bonkers considering he’s playing Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who becomes host to a malignant alien symbiote.

This is the latest film from the ‘SMU’ — Sony Marvel Universe — not to be confused with the Avengers world of the MCU. However, since Sony’s main star in Spiderman has joined the MCU, they are now telling us that the SMU is ‘adjunct’ to the MCU. Make sense??

Eddie Brock’s journalism sees him delving into the secretive business of millionaire and alleged philanthropist Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), who has got his hands on some alien symbiotes who have made their way to Earth.

Brock’s attempts to get a big scoop are silenced, but his visit to Drake’s lab sees one of the symbiotes merge with him. Gaining superpowers but struggling to control the alien entity, the film sees Brock attempting to still do good as the uncontrollable and destructive Venom.

As his lawyer ex-fiancée, portrayed here by Michelle Williams, becomes increasingly disturbed by his behaviour. Will his nemesis, Spiderman, make an appearance?

Stay for the end of the credits!
