Last year, Youtube announced that they would be bringing back Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in Cobra Kai, one of the first Youtube Premium series. Premiering on the 2nd May, the new series was a massive success, but at The Odyssey we want to remind you of where their rivalry all began.

Daniel has just arrived in California from New Jersey, where he immediately runs into karate trained high school bullies. He is rescued by a Japanese Janitor (Pat Morita) who agrees to teach him how to harness karate for good instead of evil. The training process to Danny seems long and laborious, with some actions looking like he’s just being made to do chores for Miyagi. When the film reaches its final championship karate bout between Daniel and Johnny, to see who will win the trophy and the heart of Ali (Elisabeth Shue), will all the training montages be worth it?

Originally the role of Kreese, the sadistic coach who goads Johnny into fighting dirty was offered to real-life karate champion Chuck Norris, but he turned down the role refusing to be shown using his skills in a negative way onscreen.
