For fans of the director’s ‘Winter’s Bone’, which effectively launched Jennifer Lawrence’s career, this unconventional family portrait shares many qualities with the 2010 film.
Director Debra Granik’s ‘Leave No Trace’ follows the story of a father (Ben Foster) and his 13-year-old daughter who lead an idyllic yet solitary life living in a picturesque nature reserve near Portland, Oregon. Rarely making contact with the outside world, the father and daughter form a heart-warming dependency on one another. But one small mistake soon has local authorities hot on their heels.
Their tranquil lifestyle is turned upside down as they’re forced to integrate back into society along with all the social pitfalls that face them. Will they be able to cope with the stresses of such a drastic lifestyle change and will they be able to find a place they can call home? One thing is for sure, Granik does an exquisite job in portraying the utmost endearing relationship between the father and daughter.
The dynamic between the two is captivating and you can’t help but feel heart-wrenching empathy for them throughout. Moving and gloriously written, Leave No Trace is sure to leave no dry eyes in the audience.
