An ex-partners daughter’s wedding? An unlikely and uncomfortable situation for most,

and one in which Isabel, played by Michelle Williams (The Greatest Showman, Manchester

By The Sea) finds herself in this melodrama.

With her orphanage in India struggling to fund itself, the prospect of a donation of $20

million seems too good to be true, yet too beneficial to turn down. The benefactor is played

by the Oscar-winning Julianne Moore (Still Alice, Gloria Bell); Theresa is a self-made multi-

millionaire with more intentions than meets the eye. Isabel is invited to New York from

Kolkata, and subsequently to the wedding. The suspense and drama is as the title suggests,

after the wedding, unveiling that the two have more similarities than their economic

disparities suggest.

A remake of the 2006 Danish drama of the same name, the films screenplay is adapted and

directed by Bart Freundlich, Moore’s husband in real life. It is not the first time the duo have

collaborated, and in this version, Freundlich changes the protagonists’ genders to create a

story which usurps expectations and questions motherhood and morality.

Expect twists, tears and tension.
