“CellooOOoo!” Among Jack Black’s most beloved films, The Odyssey gives you a big-screen opportunity to see Richard Linklater’s sleeper ‘rock comedy’ hit, which has since spawned a worldwide Broadway hit.

From the Director of Boyhood, Before Sunrise and Dazed & Confused, Linklater and writer Mike White - who also stars in the film – based the School of Rock concept on The Langley Schools Music Project.

Jack Black is Dewey Finn, a struggling musician who lives with meek school friend Ned (White) and his domineering girlfriend Patty (Sarah Silverman). Dropped from his own band, No Vacancy, Dewey disguises himself as a substitute teacher so he can pay off his rent. Still desperate to enter an upcoming battle of the bands competition, he attempts to turn his private school class into a rock and roll unit, much to the exasperation of Principal Mullins (Joan Cusack).

Jack Black’s infamous stage dive in the film was based on one he witnessed himself at a concert by The Cult (if you’ve seen the film, I’m sure you know the one!) It also fell on Black and the entirety of the film’s co-stars to film a video begging Led Zeppelin for permission to use ‘Immigrant Song’ in the movie.
