The king has returned! Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book) brings us his photorealistic take on The Lion King, and it looks wonderfully majestic.

This is the tale of young lion Simba, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of his mighty father and King Mufasa. However, the nefarious influence of his uncle Scar sees him exiled from Pride Rock.

Can he return and live up to his kingly duties?

The pride of voice talent is headed up by Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala. Joining them is Chiwetel Ejiofor as menacing uncle Scar, and the comedic chops of Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan as Timon and Pumba, respectively.

James Earl Jones, reprises his role in the bassy tones of Mufasa. But that’s not the only crew reprisal; composer Hans Zimmer has reunited with Lebo M, who sang the iconic ‘nants ingonyama bagithi baba’ over the original film’s opening, revisiting their Lion King score. Elton John, also signed on to work on new versions of the original songs with Beyoncé.

Utilising pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way.
