20 years after its initial release, the Wachowskis’ moody, mind-bending masterpiece has lost none of its power to perplex, astonish, and excite.

Trapped in a bland, directionless office life, Mr. Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) is a computer programmer and part-time hacker who goes by the alias Neo, who accepts an invitation from Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), a shadowy outlaw. Morpheus tells him that all he knows is a lie, and that nothing is as it seems. On taking his help, Neo finds this to be only too true. What follows is one of the most technically mind-blowing spectacles of cinema history. The effects are astonishing.

Laced with Star Wars-like Eastern mysticism, and featuring thrilling martial arts action choreographed by Hong Kong action director Yuen Woo Ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), The Matrix restored Keanu Reeves to genre stardom, and made a star of Carrie-Anne Moss, who followed this with the challenging perception twister Memento.

It's funny, it's dark, it's smart and it's filled with guns, lots of guns.
