Imagine a world where The Beatles never existed… It’s not something that bears thinking about - that is unless you are director Danny Boyle.

One of Britain’s most celebrated breakthrough talents of the ‘90s, director Boyle now delights us with a new comedy with whimsical charm. And he’s helped with a little help from his friends: a breakout performance from newcomer Himesh Patel (Eastenders), joined by Lily James (Mamma Mia 2, Baby Driver), a brilliant comedic turn from Joel Fry (Paddington 2, Plebs) plus Ed Sheeran and James Corden starring as themselves.

Jack Malik (Patel) dreams of making it as a singer-songwriter but feels increasingly stuck in his tiny seaside hometown, despite the support of childhood friend Ellie (Lily James). That is until a mysterious global blackout causes him to collide with a bus while cycling. He wakes up in an alternate reality in which the Fab Four and their music never materialised. Jack struggles with his conscience as he begins performing Yesterday as if he wrote it himself, and his new American agent Debra (Kate McKinnon) catapults him to stardom.

Love is all you need. But a rom-com can’t hurt.
