One of those magical moments where a particular place inspires a musical changing of the guard - the Upstage Club in Asbury Park, New Jersey was the launchpad for Bruce Springsteen, Steve Van Zandt and Southside Johnny.

Facing serious segregation, with the white eastside and the black westside, the Upstage was a place where musicians and music lovers freely intermingled and often jammed all night long.

In 1970, unemployment in the westside saw a week of rioting that left many injured, destroying neighbourhoods and the Asbury music scene. Still boarded up today, director Tom Jones conducts many of the interviews in the dilapidated Upstage.

The music maestros recount their Jersey Shore musical roots, amidst racial segregation and rioting in this major theatrical event which screens nationwide for one night only.

It also includes a bonus feature of never before seen footage of Van Zandt, Southside Johnny, Springsteen and the Upstage All-stars playing a (now legendary) concert to a sold out Paramount Theater, trading guitar licks with a group of 11-year-old rockers - who prove the best days for the town may lie ahead.
