Loveable characters and beautifully realised animation make Wonder Park a jolly romp through an emotional rollercoaster-ride of a movie.
June, a precociously smart eight-year-old (voiced by newcomer Brianna Denski) spends her time with her Mum (Jennifer Garner) imagining the world’s most incredible theme park and populating it with her stuffed toy animals. However, when her mother falls ill, June is sent off to Math Camp.
Along the way she discovers a life size version of her theme park, complete with stuffed animals come to life. She meets a nervy porcupine (John Oliver), a control freak warthog (Mila Kunis) and a narcoleptic bear (Tom Baker - in an inspired piece of casting!) who has a habit of falling asleep at the worst possible moments.
Unfortunately, not all is well in Wonderland. It has been overrun by hordes of chimpanzombies (equally cute and menacing) and June, with the help of her furry friends, must revive the park’s fortunes and save the day.
The park acts as a metaphor for June’s struggles with her mum’s illness in a film that celebrates imagination, curiosity and perseverance, underlining the importance of not letting fear stop you from being yourself and doing what you love.
